With great respect and love, I welcome you with all my heart. When I contemplated the Alcoholics Anonymous Twelve Steps of Recovery, several questions and answers appeared in my inquiring mind. Why does twelve steps work for people recovering from addictions? What similarities does the twelve steps have with correct prayer and meditation principles and practices? What is the implication of the twelve steps to people other than alcoholics and addicts toward recovery from our egos?

12 Suggested Steps to Willie-Chipoholics Recovery

1. Admitted we were powerless over the Willie-Chip (White supremacy) - that our lives had become unmanageable. Changing from a losing attitude to a winning attitude. Because people are sick and tired of being sick and tired, out of desperation, people will try anything positive to take a leap of faith.

2. Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity. Positive self-dimension is at work here where a belief that we are all connected to a Greater Healer which represents Mother Earth, Holy African Spirit, Heavenly Father or the One.

3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him/Her. Surrender to a Higher Power which loosens the hold of our damaged egos and frees us which is a path to freedom.

4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves. Total cleansing of our vessel (mind & body) has to be done before it can be filled up with the Holy African Spirit.

5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs. This admittance of our wrongs is the opposite of denial which opens up or lets go of our negative addictions hold on us.

6. We're entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character. Again, surrender to a Higher Power is a necessary act to open our mind to its cleansing power before positive transformation of character becomes a reality.

7. Humbly asked Him/Her to remove our shortcomings. A positive Self-talk with our soul affirming its power to connect with our Great Healer where healing originates and the healing source of afflictions & addictions of the ego.

8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all. Making amends is a necessary act to help neutralize negative karma before recovery happens.

9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others. We have to use discrimination to avoid more harm than good.

10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it. No time to lose to ask for forgiveness and to forgive. Do it right away, instead of procrastinating for some other time that might never come.

11. Sought through correct prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him/Her, praying only for knowledge of His/Her will for us and the power to carry that out. Correct prayer/meditation connects the practitioner/student to the Great Healer to experience inner love, which heals all afflictions & addictions completely.

12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to Willie-Chipoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs. After the spiritual enlightenment which results from correct prayer/meditation practices, the enlightened ones become messengers of Truth to share what they have experienced for the good of the whole.

What is your personal understanding of the 12 steps of recovery or enlightenment?
I believe that the 12 steps of recovery is applicable not only to people with addictions (who hasn't?) but also is another set of guidelines to become winners in life's challenges.
